Wingspan won the Kennerspiel!
Yesterday in Berlin, Wingspan (or really its German translation, Flügelschlag) was awarded the Kennerspiel des Jahres award -- one of the biggest "game of the year" awards.
Jamey Stegmaier wrote a blog post asking people what they do to celebrate big wins. One of the answers was to think of the three moments from the event that you really want to remember. Here are mine:
Ignacy Trzewiczek taking a selfie with me and Stefan Feld while we were all waiting (“before we faint,” he said):
The German Minister of Culture being so joyful to learn about Flügelschlag, giving me a big bear hug when I won, going over to the Feuerland area and getting a copy, and coming back and asking me to sign her game. (She’s a birder.)

About 3 hours after the ceremony the physical feeling of coming down off of all the adrenaline was quite remarkable. Frank Heeren told me the German phrase "mir fällt ein Stein vom Herzen" -- “a stone is falling from my heart,” which is just about perfect. Here's a pic of me with the Feuerland crew:

And an honorable mention for memorable moment goes to Reiner Knizia’s llama costume (for his game L.A.M.A.).

I had more to say here.
Read the statement and see more pictures from the SdJ folks here.
I'm sure I'll see some of you at Gen Con next week!
best,
