Tussie-Mussie on Kickstarter, Wingspan nominated for Kennerspiel & other news
Greetings from the Minneapolis airport! I'm on my way home from a great visit with my brother and his family in Montana, including my super-adorable 2-year-old nephew. In this email:
New game: Tussie-Mussie is available on Kickstarter!
Other big news: Wingspan was nominated for the Kennerspiel des Jahres.
Upcoming events: Labyrinth DC on June 1, and a bunch of cons later in the year
Podcasts: I was on Board Game Design Lab talking about engine building and women in board game design
Bird of the month: Ash-throated flycatcher
Tussie-Mussie Kickstarter is live
Tussie-Mussie is a quick and breezy 18-card game I designed last summer for Button Shy Games, inspired by the Victorian language of flowers. (Board Game Squad aptly called it "New York Slice meets Love Letter," if you're familiar with those games.) You can order a copy for $10 plus shipping on Kickstarter, right now.
Wingspan Nominated for the Kennerspiel des Jahres
In other big news, Wingspan was just announced as one of 3 nominees for the Kennerspiel des Jahres, perhaps the biggest "game of the year" award there is. You may have seen the logo on some of your favorite games.
Winners are announced July 22 in Berlin. I'm making plans to attend!
In the last week, Wingspan also inched its way into the top 50 games on Board Game Geek.
Upcoming Events
June 1: I'll be at International Tabletop Day at Labyrinth Games, in Washington DC.
July 19-21: I'll probably go to at least some of Berlin Brettspiel Con.
Also on my agenda for this year are GenCon, WashingCon, Tabletop Network, BGG Con, and probably Pax Unplugged.
Hope to meet you all somewhere along the way!
Podcasts
I've been listening to the Board Game Design Lab podcast since it first started, so it was an absolute pleasure to talk with Gabe about designing engine-building games. We followed up with a shorter conversation about women in board game design.
Bird of the Month
I was in Oregon a couple weeks ago for work, but took a couple of extra days to go exploring. One of those days, I managed to see an ash-throated flycatcher -- one of the few birds that I included in Wingspan that I had never seen! For me, it's an added joy of traveling to new places when it means I also get to see new birds.
