October update
I wrote this email last week and it got flagged and held up by Tiny Letter for some reason. Let's try again! In this email:
Game updates
Recent talks and interviews
Bird of the Month: Common Yellowthroat
Game Updates
Wingspan
Oceania Expansion info is coming out daily on the Wingspan Facebook group: Jamey has started posting pictures and information about what's in the expansion. (You can also see this on the Oceania expansion page under the expandable section called "Designer Diary.")
Preorders will start in late October to buy directly from Stonemaier. The retail release will follow after that. We make a little more if you order directly, but your local game store could probably really use your business right now.
Wingspan digital edition is out on Steam! This includes only the base game at this point, but they have plans to incorporate the expansions.
I had a great time playing the other day with one of the developers from Monster Couch, which will air during Steam's upcoming Digital Tabletop Fest sometime October 21-26.
Mariposas
Mariposas is out and continues to get great reviews. If you've played, and have a Board Game Geek account, it's super helpful if you leave a rating on BGG. Thanks!
When manufacturing was already underway, someone asked if there was any chance of having purple as a player color, because purple butterflies are how she memorializes her daughter Lexi who died in 2018. Well, AEG got to work, and you can now buy a set of purple butterfly tokens. A portion of the price will be donated to charity.
Recent Talks and Interviews
I gave a talk last week for the NYU Game Lab. It covered some
behind-the-scenes Wingspan development, diversity in games, and a sprinkling of other stuff. You can watch it here.
Other miscellaneous interviews I've done lately:
Game Enthus Sept 14,2020 (video)
República Ludica Aug 14, 2020 (video)
Meepleville Meets Aug 13, 2020 (video)
Board Game the Game Show 1 August 2020 (video)
I've been pre-recording some interviews that will air during SPIEL.Digital October 22-25 -- but I don't know the exact details yet on when you can watch them.
Bird of the Month: Common Yellowthroat
Birds are on the move, and we've been getting warblers at the little pond in our backyard. Here's a Common Yellowthroat that came by earlier this week. What an adorbler.
May you enjoy all the beauties of fall (or spring!),
